This year 6 talented young sailors represented Leicestershire and Rutland for the NSSA regatta held at Bassenthwaite in the Lake District.
All the sailors performed very well on this large water and most importantly greatly improved their racing skills. What's more sailors and team managers alike all had a really enjoyable week. Wind conditions were testing as they varied from none to strong gusts and added to the scorching sunshine to provide good if hot sailing weather!
3 Races were carried out on the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, the final one on Friday before the presentations. Wednesday held the All Comers Pursuit race in which the team Managers Jeremy and Rebecca were kept on their toes, beaten by miles by Will and Ben Adams in their Miracle! Becky Bradley and Alex Batchelor bravely took on the Mount Hayes Trophy in Topper Xenons and Alexander Paterson and Rob Cottrell entered the Single Handed Topper Race. Rob took home the Haywood Tankard, award for the best Leicestershire sailor.
Video debriefs were held the first two evenings by Jim Saltonstall, chairman of the NSSA and top race coach. These provided valuable advice for all of us, and congratulated Alexander as first ‘ferret' on the water on the first day!
