Daily Updates
Friday 25th
The final days racing consisted of 2 back to back races in the morning for everyone except the Rookie fleet. They had a race and some training.
During the afternoon boats and tents were all packed up. It was quite sad to see our campsite reduced to some squares of yellow grass in the field! Thanks everyone for the card and lovely flowers, they're still looking fabulous a week on.
Packing the boats up was quite a task especially as they had to be wheeled a long way to the road trailers. Thanks to all who helped Jeremy with this.
The evening presentation had speeches, presentations of awards and lots of clapping. Rob Cottrell won the Haywood Tankard - the award for the highest placed Leicestershire sailor.
Finally thanks to Tony for turning my garbled phone calls into daily updates for you all to read!
Thursday 24th
Amani won some jaffa cakes for being the only rookie to meet the challenge of sailing in standing up on Tuesday. Sun and wind today - looking good.
Becka, Rosie and Andrew were interviewed ive on Radio Derby.
Wednesday 23rd
There was little wind again today and a number of races have been postponed. The Mount Hayes Trophy went ahead with good results from team Alex/Jon and team Rob/Adam. Both cam 3rd out of 6 in their respective heats. In the single handers Andrew McEvoy came 21st out of 38 with Alex rice a few places behind him.
Fun was had by all later on with an impromptu tug of war organised by the beach master.
The event was visited by single hander offshore yachtswoman Katie Miller and having seen Alex Batchelor rigging her Laser Katie asked her for some advice on Laser rigging as she had one herself. You can read more here .
A lot of external feedback has come in on how well the team is behaving and working together and Becka is very proud of them all. Ther is good team spirit and the older ones help look after the younger ones.
Tuesday 22nd
A quiet day wind wise. Alex Rice and Rosie Washington did very well in the Topper fleet of approximately 80 boats. Rob Cottrell is currently placed 5th overall in the Laser fleet of around 40.
The team was interviewed this morning and should be on BBC East Midlands news after 6:30 tonight. This should also be downloadable after it's aired, probably for 30 days, from the link below
A tannoy announcement was made this morning about the Leicestershire team, praising them for their launching procedure! Further news will be up as soon as it becomes available.
A good team spirit is present.
Monday 21st
Monday was windy, overcast and cold. Everyone sailed well. The older ones achieved some top 10 places out of a fleet of 40 ish. The team spirit was good with everyone helping out.
Sunday 20th July
It's the end of the first day and all is going well. Everyone arrived on time and boats were parked in the boat park which is right next to the water although rather tight for space. The camp site is in a lovely position overlooking the lake although rather exposed and a little windy today. Following lunch and briefing everyone went out on a practice sail with a few getting wet in the strong winds but everyone was OK. Tea time saw the first of the supplied meals and the food was excellent. Everyone seems to be settling in well and looking forward to the week ahead. The forecast for the week looks good with the wind speeds due to drop a little. We'll keep you posted as the week goes on.
