Regatta Format

General regatta timing is as follows:

9:00 Please arrive around 9:00am to help rig boats. There is a lot of preparation goes into running the regattas and help is greatly appreciated. 10:30 Race Briefing

11:00 First race starts

Lunch

Afternoon - Further 2 races Presentation of trophies and certificates.

We aim to finish by approximately4:30pm.

The 3 races are run with one discard.  That means that only a competitors best 2 races are taken into account for the scoring.  All scoring takes into account the Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) for the boats.  That is a number that has been determined over time to give a measure of the boats speed, all other things being equal. The smaller the number, the  faster the boat is rated.  This enables us to even things out as best we can, given the mixed fleet we are sailing with. The PY numbers we use can be seen here

Parents are welcome to stay and watch, bring a picnic!

The Matthew Fullham Memorial Trophy group will race at the same time as the Mayor's Trophy group but their times will go onto separate score sheets and they will have separate trophies.

Competitors are welcome to bring their own boats - please contact Colin. The boats we use will depend on the venue and what boats can be transported to the venue. Getting enough boats together is one of our biggest problems at present. Competitors will be assigned boats and will stick with the boats that are assigned to them. Sailors are generally paired up which allows weaker sailors who want to take part to crew for more advanced sailors to help them build confidence and gain on experience.

The aim is to have fun and build on sailing skills. All competitors are expected to behave sensibly. Bad behaviour or language will not be tolerated.

The organisers reserve the right to exclude anyone sailing regularly in higher level competition such as National and Zone squads as the whole essence of the regattas is to develop and encourage less experienced sailors.
